By the use of gateways, e.g. OpenScape Branch, you can also maintain your own local calling plan with a local carrier. This is not cost effective, but does address several issues: You might have a contractual obligation to continue your present service for a period of time; You would maintain an additional layer of redundancy should your connection to the OpenScape data centers be interrupted; This would provide e911 emergency dispatch service in the very small percentage of the country which cannot be accessed by the OpenScape trunking solution.
